Ian "the Pit Viper" Sugierski
Drummer of Red Swan and Wolfbait

Ian 'the Pit Viper' Sugierski (a 26 year-old native of Lansing, MI) has been playing drums for eighteen years. Nine of those included lessons with professional drummers, some of whom were the late Bob Grunder (who drummed for Dolly Parton and Mark Farner of Grand Fuck Railroad) and jazz legend Ed Soph. His style reflects the bombast and accents of Keith Moon, the Celtic shuffles of Thin Lizzy's Brian Downey, and the thunderousness and layering of symphonic percussion. And during the fourteen years of developing this style he's been in numerous bands. Currently he puts his effort toward two Michigan groups. One is Red Swan, a Lansing-based band that plays back-woods swamp-rock and murder ballads. The other, Wolfbait (in which Sugierski is known as 'Pit Viper'), is a Detroit NWOBHM metal outfit with dual guitar harmonies, double bass, and make-up. With the former Ian's recorded with Steve Albini (known for albums by the Pixies, Cheap Trick, as well as Jimmy Page and Robert Plant), and Bill Skibbe (who has recorded Wolf Eyes and US Maple). Ian appears on Red Swan's 7" (Michigan Blood Games) and two full-length albums (After the Barn Goes and Cold Winters Dawn) on the label Isoxys Records. Both albums have received high praise in press such as Punk Planet and the Village Voice. With Red Swan he's done a tour of the Midwest, East coast, and Canada. Wolfbait has just released their first full-length album (Warrior Kings) on Scorched Earth Records. Wolfbait has opened up for acts such as W.A.S.P. and The Brain Saw, and were nominated band of the month in March by Detroit radio station RIFF2. In addition to the above, Sugierski's recorded with Jim Diamond (who’s done bands like Bantam Rooster and the New Bomb Turks). He also hires himself out to other bands that need fill-in drummers.
